Grantham 2k17

Hello all! Consistency is a thing still!

Here I am for the first time this month, writing to tell you about some of the most recent events. Let's start with my birthday. A bit over a week ago, I was celebrating my birthday with my friends and accidentally dropped liquids on top of my MacBook. Sadly, that marked the death of said MacBook. I spent the last week either focusing on how much I would have to pay to repair it, or in Grantham (more to come about that in a bit!!).
I got the news yesterday. Repairing my baby would be £1800 so I threw that option out of the window and instead focused on alternatives.
I present to you the newest addition to the family, Charles Alexander II:

My baby is going to be so well taken care of and will forever have a place in my heart.
Rest in Peace Charles Alexander I.

Anyway, moving on to other things... Grantham!
Grantham means training weekend for the Enactus teams within the UK. We had teams from all over the country joining us in Grantham and there we had sessions to learn how to improve our projects and teams. It was a great experience, in which everyone got drunk after the fancy dinner party.

Allow me to start at the beginning... Me, and some of the members of our team (Wooohooo Enactus Beds!) went for the training weekend together. It was exactly what I was expecting, if only a bit colder. The bunk beds, the amazing food and the cool sessions made everything great.

On Friday we got there, it was late as we got somewhat lost while trying to get there and then had to make our way back. We went to our rooms to drop things off and then we attended an opening ceremony, welcoming us to the event. After that we had dinner.

Not going to lie here, I was not expecting it but I was hungry as hell when we got there. I grabbed as much food as I could, almost as if I hadn't eaten in weeks. The battered fish was amazing, somehow i felt like eating bread so i grabbed two slices and buttered them up. They were lifeeee! Afterwards we just went back to our rooms and got ready for the bonfire. It was a cool experience and I met a few people from the other teams. Some of them I recognised from Nationals and then the World Cup.
Overall it was fun and I wish we had more times like this to just be with new people instead of being so focused on the competition itself.

The next morning, me and Beatriz woke up and we figured out how the showers worked. When we were done, we woke the rest of the team up and soon we went for breakfast. Once again, food was great. I had never thought I would be hungry for that breakfast but daaaamn i was. Right now I wish I was back there for them amazing meals that I did not have to cook myself. After breakfast (which included two slices of bread and two bowls of cereals) the sessions with alumni who helped us learn more about how to improve our teams through helping our beneficiaries and soon it was lunch time again.

Lunch wasn't as great as I was hoping. I basically ate salad and slices of bread with butter (I swear I've never eaten as much bread in such a short time as i did there) it just left me hungry for dinner.
Between lunch and dinner we had to attend a few more sessions, I was sent to the ones where they needed to find out the most stuff but unfortunately, I was awkwardly sitting there not knowing what to do. I found my way though and made it out of there alive.

At 6pm it was time to get ready for the fancy dinner party. Food wasn't great. Fancy to be precise. I didn't really like the entry they had... As for the main dish, I asked for plain chicken (sorry Ramla xx) and that made things better. To compensate for it, the dessert was bless; chocolate cake with ice cream.

Afterwards it was the party and everyone got drunk and even though they were playing songs that only a few groups of people knew at first, as soon as people started getting drunk they started playing well known songs that got everyone happy and dancing.

I met a guy from Lancaster that was so drunk and trying to speak through emojis but his phone had no battery so he was trying to do the emoji. Unfortunately he was so drunk that he could not explain it to me until a couple days later. Fortunately, he did know how to write one sentence in Spanish which made the conversation start. It was really funny, so here's my advice kids... Get drunk and have fun, no matter how weird you get, you will find a way to explain what happened someday!

I was the first one of our group to go back home, I knew it would be lame to leave, but I needed sleep. So I left the party and went to bed. That meant I would be the first one to wake up and not be hungover. I was alright by the morning and had as much food as I could once again.

There were some activities in the morning after breakfast, I chose not to participate but went with my team to see them take part. At some point, me and Beatriz left and then it was time for the next activity, there was a speech that kept us hoping it would end soon since we were hungry again. We went for lunch and although this time I was expecting it to not be so good, it was pretty good. Burgers on a bun and salad (I had salad in as many meals as I could #healthy) and obviously the slices of bread with butter.

After that, it was time to pack. I should have taken a picture of all the mess. I am pretty much a messy person, but damn for 2 days that was really messy. All my clothes were randomly laying next to the bed and it ended up being pretty much me trying to figure out if I had everything packed and then finding something I missed and trying to make it fit inside the bag.

The journey back home was easy, not much to say apart from me being asleep and taking pics of the sleeping beauties next to me <3

Now let's see how everything will go in the near future. Hopefully everything will be alright with work and uni.

'In a bit!

    1. Yeah ahah It's been interesting, but getting drunk seems to get me in some interesting situations. I am glad that I am able to do all that I've done so far and I honestly think that his inhibitor is great to make people relax and be themselves even more.

Back to the Routine

One of the things that I was looking forward to the most was going back to classes. I didn't realise just how interested I was in all the optional units I'm taking until I it was 5 minutes before they started. I honestly wasn't expecting to be so excited about them, but I'm glad that I was. As a second year student, I have two core units: Poetics: Research into Writing and Creative Writing: Research into Writing and so fair they seem interesting, especially the Poetics unit. I only had one lecture and one workshop of each of them but they seem to be mostly about the same. How to take research and apply it to the story, though in Poetics  you try to understand the process of why you chose to research that and what that saying about you. I was expecting them to be quite boring actually, but so far they turned out really interesting and actually made me think of how I do research, if I'm searching for the correct things and how I'm showing the new knowledge I got...

January Tales

So this new year has started and I have been going a bit all over the place trying to figure out what is in fact going on. Let me tell you a bit about my January since the last post was just a random update on how things are in fact going. So as some of you might know, I spent the strike of twelve to the new year back home in Portugal. I spent 13 lovely days in there in which I saw family and friends even if just for a few hours. More often than not, I worked on my assessments and then I even spent some time with the dog. It was all good, considering that I was also going to doctor's appointments and getting my health back to the way it should be. Throughout the whole time, I spoke everyday to my lovely people Karolina, Beatriz and Jack. This was the first time I ever had 14 day streak with more than one person, in this case all three of them had it with me. Anyways, upon my return to the cold country that is the UK, I arranged meetings with all my friends and soon I was goin...

This is The End

Hi. As we both know by now, it is clear I am very bad at writing new posts on here as frequently as I hoped. However, I have reached the end of an Era. I am graduating next week and so the purpose of this blog is about to end. I have been as truthful as I could and gave as much advice as I ever could to anyone joining the university experience. I did not have an easy time throughout these last few months. It finally became clear how difficult it is to be finishing university, to try to understand what I want to be doing for the rest of my life, but here we are now. I went from nearly failing this year to writing my dissertation at the library up until late late at night. I was absolutely grateful for my friends who helped me finish it and I could have never asked for better friends than the ones I gained while at university and through work. So this is it. This is the end of this blog. I will definitely start a new blog that I will hopefully post more frequently while I try t...
